Description
In Malaysia, domestic minting began in 1971 by the Mint Department of Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank of Malaysia. Following the reorganisation and restructuring of Bank Negara Malaysia's operations, a specially set up committee agreed that the minting operations of the bank be privatised.
In 2000, The Royal Mint of Malaysia was established to function primarily as a mint.
